Child-Teacher ratio: 4:2
Major Goals: Form, balance and safety
To develop skills, confidence, control and endurance in the major strokes; Practice strokes in whole and in parts; Explore breathing patterns; Students will be encouraged to make up their own strokes. Begin to develop endurance; Practice simple touch turns; Basic dives and some snorkeling techniques will be taught.
V. STROKE REFINEMENT - 45 minute small group lessons
Child-Teacher ratio: 4:2
Major Goals: Form, balance, safety and endurance
Practice the skills performed in stroke development. Emphasis on coordination and refinement of strokes and endurance; Flip turns will be taught.
Teaching Strategies for Stroke Groups
Students will be assisted with strokes through verbal prompts, demonstration and physical assistance. Progression through different stroke levels is contingent upon the student’s comfort level, control of movements and strength. Students will be encouraged to "feel" the movement patterns, be aware of the breathing patterns and to compare strokes.
